A hit! Alone or with friends.
Guess the Song is an interactive music quiz for iPhone and iPad for competing locally with your friends or play for a prime position in the international leaderboard.
The app connects to Apple Music and accesses the streaming provider’s catalog even if you don’t have an active subscription. Playlists for the quiz are fetched, loaded and displayed using MusicKit and the Apple Music API.
The user can pick a playlist, customize the rules, add teammates and start the game. A random song from the playlist is played and the players have to guess which one it is. If you think you know the song, you hit a buzzer and guess. Round after round the winner is chosen. A simple principle, but particularly fun for music lovers.
Now there is also the single player mode. Select a playlist, start playing and try to guess the correct song from four displayed music titles. The first three tries of a playlist are ranked and will be listed in a leaderboard for the selected playlist.
The app is built in SwiftUI with an MVVM architecture. This is partially supported with Combine. Lottie is used for the animations and Firebase is used as database and authentication service (together with Sign in with Apple). Displayed design objects such as a record player and a winner’s podium are also created purely in SwiftUI.
Since February there are also in-app purchases available for things such as jokers, game tickets and game passes.
